The first step on the path to becoming Shia is to believe in the Oneness of Allah (Tawheed). This is the foundation of all Islamic belief.

Allah is the One and Only God, the Creator of the universe, who has no partners, no equals, and no associates. He is eternal, all-knowing, all-powerful, and merciful.

This belief means recognizing that Allah alone is worthy of worship, and that nothing should be associated with Him in worship or in His divine attributes.

As the Quran states: “Say, He is Allah, [who is] One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, Nor is there to Him any equivalent.” (Surah Al-Ikhlas)
