Recognize the Ahl al-Bayt

The Ahl al-Bayt (People of the House) refers to the family of Prophet Muhammad, particularly his daughter Fatima, his cousin and son-in-law Ali, and their descendants, the Twelve Imams.

Shia Muslims believe that the Prophet designated Ali as his successor and that leadership of the Muslim community should remain within the Prophet’s family. This is based on numerous hadiths and historical events, including the event of Ghadir Khumm.

This step involves:

  • Recognizing the special status of the Ahl al-Bayt
  • Understanding their role as guides and interpreters of Islam
  • Loving and following their teachings
  • Learning from their example of piety and justice

The Prophet said: “I am leaving among you two weighty things: the Book of Allah and my Ahl al-Bayt. If you hold fast to them, you will never go astray.”
